Beware says Grew

Vale can expect Shrews to come out fighting

Vale players have been warned to expect Shrewsbury to come out fighting on Saturday and they are under no illusion of the task that lies ahead.

The Shrews have not had the best of times recently, losing five of their last six games, but that is all the more reason to fear a backlash says Vale Assistant Manager mark Grew.

He says: “They are a wounded animal and they have a caretaker manager in there who wants the job so if anyone thinks on Saturday it is going to be an easy game for sure it won’t be.

“I have never gone to Shrewsbury with Port Vale and had an easy game and I don’t expect one on Saturday.

“There are a few clubs around them starting to pick points up as well, so it is vital they try to get three points on the board. An easy game is one thing it won’t be.

“I don’t think a point at home now will get them out of trouble so it is vital they get the three points , but we want the same as them. I think it will make an open game.

“We have done well over the last few years at Shrewsbury. We have had some good performances there and I am looking forward to going there.

“They still have quality players in there that probably have underachieved a little bit. I didn’t expect Shrewsbury to be down in that position, but they are.

“We look forward to these games and I think the fans do. It will be a good atmosphere. The stats aren’t good over the last few weeks for Shrewsbury but stats don’t win football matches.”
