Neal says attitude is crucial

Vale must face Shortwood United in the right frame of mind

Vale ‘keeper Chris Neal says Vale must take the right attitude into the game on Monday night if they are to avoid an embarrassing defeat to Shortwood United in the FA Cup.

He believes if Vale approach the game with the right mental attitude they will make progress in the competition, but they must be on their toes.

He said: “It will be on TV and they will be up for the game, there’s no doubt about that, so we have got to make sure we go down there and apply ourselves well.

“We can’t go there thinking it is going to be an easy game, they beat Aldershot who are no mugs because they are sitting there in the Conference – we can’t go down there and underestimate them.

“The fact there will be TV cameras won’t affect us in the slightest. You see the cameras and stuff outside the ground when you turn up, but once get into the changing room and the warm-up, you forget all about being on TV.

“You just go about your normal game and if we do that I am sure we will come up with a positive result and be in the hat for the next round.

“You can’t go down there and underestimate a team from the lower leagues, they are going to be up for a battle and a fight and we need to go down there and make sure there is not going to be an upset.

“The worst thing that can happen to a league team is to get beaten by a non-league team, so we need to go down there and play well and I am sure we will get through to the next round.”
