HUGHES DETERMINED TO DELIVER

8 April 2013

Striker says the players want to give the fans something to shout about

Lee Hughes grabbed himself a hat-trick against Burton Albion on Friday night, but his thoughts were soon turning to Tuesday night’s encounter with Aldershot Town.

Hughes has experienced promotion before and sees no reason why he can’t do it again, this time in a Vale shirt, but the striker warns Aldershot, despite being at the foot of the table, will not make it easy for the Valiants.

The striker said: “If we perform well like we did against Burton Albion the other night then there is no reason why we can’t get promoted, but we have got to look to Tuesday now

“Aldershot are scrapping for their lives and it is going to be a difficult game – I’ve played in these games before when you play against a bottom of the league side.

“You get dragged down to their level and it is going to be tricky. We have got to start right, start with a high tempo, get a goal and then hopefully push on and get a few more.”

Vale haven’t experienced promotion for a number of years now, but we are now within touching distance and could be celebrating very soon.

Hughes believes the players have shown they want it and they are determined to deliver to the supporters, who deserve nothing less.

He says: “With the players we have got, it is a great dressing room and you can see that on the pitch. The last couple of years it has been a shame what has happened to this club.

“The club has a lot of history and hopefully we can turn it around now and give the supporters something to cheer about and get promoted.”
