Tyrone Barnett: "I want to show everyone that I am a good player."

Tyrone Barnett is determined to play his part for Port Vale during the remainder of the season as they look to climb away from danger in Sky Bet League Two, with Newport County up next at Vale Park.

The experienced striker featured in last weekend's defeat to Swindon Town before going off with an injury, and despite that result, he believes that there is enough in the squad to turn around the current dip in form.

Having got almost an hour under his belt at the County Ground, the 32-year-old is hoping for a place in the squad on Saturday afternoon. Should that be the case, he is raring to prove that he is a player who can benefit the team.

He said: "From the beginning, it has always been important to myself that I want to show that I am a good player - I want to prove that to the Vale fans and the manager.

"The season has been a bit stop-start for me, but if I can have a good run until the end of it, it will certainly be something I am eager to do.

"That is all I can hope for, I just have to keep working hard to produce good performances and then hopefully that allows me to play regularly for the rest of the season.

"I am feeling good after a recovery session on Tuesday and a day off on Wednesday. We had training today (Thursday) and a few 11 v 11's - I feel bright and coming off on Saturday was just a precaution really."

With 13 fixtures left to play in Sky Bet League Two for the Valiants, Barnett acknowledges that the players hold their destiny in their own hands.

Neil Aspin's men are unbeaten at home in the league since November and the forward firmly believes that Vale Park must become a fortress if he and his teammates want to push up the table.

"It would be a positive if teams come here and fear us for the last part of the season," he said.

"That would always be an advantage to us going into the games, so if we can keep picking up wins here, I am sure it would be a good start for us and it would give us something to build on when we go away.

"Newport will be tough as with every game in League Two where the top teams lose to the bottom ones all of the time, but if we can get our game plan right and execute it, I am sure we can get a good result."
