Rob Taylor talks about his frstrations in recent months
Rob Taylor has spoken of his frustration following his lengthy injury, the fight for fitness and at long last his return to first team football last weekend.
He suffered not only from the physical side of things, but also the anguish of not being a part of things when the manager was bringing in other players to play in his position.
He said: “I have been for too long. It took a lot longer than was expected and so I was getting frustrated and it was a difficult period, but I am just glad that it has finally healed.
“It hasn’t been right for eighteen months now and it has definitely shown in performances etcetera, so it has been nice just to get back fully fit and be able to do the extras, so in terms of my fitness I think it is the fittest I have felt for about two years now.
“I have missed two pre-seasons on the trot and it is hard coming back in to catch up and the gaffer has bought players to play in my position as well.
“It is difficult to sit on the sidelines knowing you are out of the manager’s plans, but you can’t blame him, he was probably expecting me to come back a lot quicker and a lot fitter.
“It has taken me a lot longer than I expected and then when I did eventually get back I was still not fully fit because I probably didn’t push myself enough when I was out, but it’s finally there now and it is a good feeling.
“No player wants another player to get injured, but it has been frustrating for me because I have been back for about two months now but haven’t quite managed to work my way back into the team.
“The lads have done really well so there was no reason really for the manager to change that, but because I have been able to do extra, the gaffer has hopefully seen I have been trying to work hard and I am fitter tan I have been for the last two years.
“There has been an opportunity for me to come back in. I wasn’t expecting it, the manager took a gamble on doing that and I’d like to think I have paid back the favour of him chucking me in, so I am grateful for that.”
