Port Vale boss Neil Aspin claims he wants a 'selection headache' following his side's impressive 1-0 win over League One outfit Burton Albion last Tuesday.

Naming six changes from the side that lost to Grimsby Town, the gaffer's fresh-faced 11 certainly put in a performance for the Vale manager to remember.

Aspin handed full debut's to Theo Vassell and Idris Kanu, as well as bringing in the likes of Sam Hornby, Louis Dodds and Lewis Hardcastle who have all struggled to gain minutes within the first-team this season.

The gamble certainly paid of as the reconstructed Vale team put in an assured performance to begin the Checkatrade Trophy campaign with a solid win. Ricky Miller's second-half goal proved enough for Aspin's side who eventually ran out 1-0 winners under the lights at Vale Park.

Neil Aspin now welcomes the 'selection headache' ahead of this weekend's league tie with table toppers, Lincoln City.

He said: "I want to have selection headaches - I want everybody fit and if I have everybody fit then I still maintain that we can match the teams in this division.

"It's got to be done on a consistent basis but we have to prepare properly for every game.

"There will always be reasons why you pick a team - it doesn't always come off but you don't just throw a team together.

"You discuss it, you prepare and there's always a reason for it but we've got to look at our opponents on Saturday and pick a team that can get a result."

Miller's second-half strike was his second goal in a Port Vale shirt and the Vale boss believes it can give the forward a push in the right direction.

Aspin signed Miller in June 2018 having been impressed with the striker's record at non-league level and he certainly got off to a flying start, scoring his first goal for the club on debut at Vale Park.

Following the opening day of the season, Miller is yet to find the back of the net in the league and Aspin has backed the forward to find his form from season's past after netting against Burton last Tuesday.

He said: "He's gone from being a big fish at non-league level where he's scored bags of goals - moving into the football league where it's obviously more difficult, but he's got to just play like he used to play without any fear.

"He's an instinctive player, he's off the cuff and that's really want we want him to do, we want him to produce something.

"It's great for his confidence tonight and I'm delighted he's got the goal."
