Port Vale midfielder, Ben Whitfield says he is hoping to regain the stunning form he had back in December, after describing his current form as "inconsistent".

Ben scored a brilliant goal in the 4-0 victory over Luton Town back in December, Vale's last league win and received the man of the match award. However, the midfielder has not found the back of the net since, and scoring goals is something Ben says, the team are struggling to do.

"We're not scoring enough. We're keeping clean sheets, but sometimes we're drawing games 0-0 and it's not good enough. We need to be getting three points on the board, creating chances for the strikers and the midfielders chipping in with goals too.

"I'm confident in myself, I always believe in myself but I need to show it a bit more sometimes on the pitch. I've always believed in myself and I'll continue to do so." Ben added.

It's been a turbulent few weeks for the 21 year old. Manager Neil Aspin dropped the young midfielder to the bench in the 2-2 draw against Colchester, and substituted him at half time against Morecambe at the weekend.

Despite not being able to get the consistent minutes he desires, Ben respects the gaffers choice and his squad selections, and is hoping to repay the faith the manager showed him after extending his loan in January.

"The gaffer picks the best team he feels on the day. Whether I'm in the starting eleven or on the bench, I'll give it my all if I get the nod to come on. I have to respect the gaffers decision.

"It's always tough not starting, I've got to respect what team the gaffer picks and when I get the chance to come on or when I get the nod I'll always give 100%.

"The manager wanted to keep me here in January which was a good sign. We've got a good relationship. I'd like to get back to the form that I did before I signed the extension and I'll be more than happy. I do need to add more goals but it's getting into the positions to score as well" he said.
