October player of the month nominations

1 November 2022

October has drawn to a close and the nominees are now in for our October Player of the Month, and you can cast your vote below now!

In October we took to the field six times, kicking the month off with a comeback victory over Derby County at Pride Park, where Ellis Harrison and James Wilson were on the scoresheet.

We picked up 10 points in the league during October, which saw us climb into the top half of the Sky Bet League One table when we capped the month off with a 1-0 win over Lincoln City at Vale Park.

October also saw us complete our Papa Johns Trophy group stage with a perfect record, winning every game in the competition so far, with our 2-0 victory over the Wolves Under-21’s seeing us top the group and finish as the only side in the competition still yet to concede a goal.

The Nominees:

Will Forrester

Our number 15 began the month with a dominating display against the Rams, helping us secure a big win at Pride Park, and carried his impressive form throughout the remainder of the month, winning the fan voted Player of the Match award against both Derby County and Cambridge United, where he provided the assist for the match winning own goal.

Ellis Harrison

Harrison has enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Vale Park, currently sitting on seven goals for the Vale, and having scooped up the two previous Player of the Month awards. October saw Harrison notch two goals, each coming from the penalty spot, against Derby County and Forest Green Rovers.

Mipo Odubeko

The West Ham loanee bagged his second league goal of the season when he came off the bench against Forest Green Rovers to make an almost instant impact, hammering home our first goal of the game. His form was carried into the following fixture away at Cambridge United, where he played the full 90 minutes and put in a display that received major praise from the almost 800 travelling Valiants. October also saw Odubeko grab the second goal in our Papa Johns Trophy win over Wolves U21, when he headed home from a David Worrall cross.

Dan Jones

Dan Jones maintained his form from September throughout last month, playing in a variety roles along the back line for Darrell Clarke’s side; his more natural positions of left-wing-back and left centre-half, whilst also featuring in the middle of the back three for the second half against Lincoln City where he helped us to pick up our seventh clean sheet of the season.
