Match Report | Port Vale 0-1 Salford City

A single goal seperates the two sides at Vale Park this evening

A few changes to the Valiants’ starting line-up with Ryan Edmondson given his first start. He had the first chance on six minutes with an effort from the edge of the area which went wide of the goal.

The visitors were looking to bounce back after no win in two. Ryan Watson had Salford’s first opportunity on 13 minutes from just outside the area but his shot went over Aidan Stone’s bar.

After making his debut on Saturday, new signing Chris Hussey kept his place in the side. He came close to giving us the lead on 25 minutes as he headed the ball on target from a David Worrall cross but Salford’s Tom King claimed the effort.

A slight delay to the game after Connor Hall collided with the goal post and bent it. A tractor had to be called upon to straighten the frame of the goal before play resumed. Ten minutes were added and in the fourth of those minutes, Brad Walker came inches away from giving us a lead at the end of a goalmouth scramble. His shot on the edge of the area beat King but also the post.

The second half started with the Ammies having the first opportunity through substitute Ash Hunter but his curling effort from 20-yards out went well wide. But against the run of play, the visitors took the lead on 50 minutes. A half-cleared corner was sent back into the area which found Tom Elliot unmarked who slotted the ball in from close range.

A very flat second half followed after the goal with neither side creating a key opportunity. The Valiants struggled to find an equaliser despite a goal-line scramble late on with James Wilson, Ben Garrity and David Amoo all coming close to forcing the ball home as the game ended 1-0 to the visitors.
