Port Vale are back on home soil this weekend as they welcome Exeter City to Burslem and boss Neil Aspin is hoping the fans can replicate their brilliant away atmosphere at Vale Park this Saturday.

The Valiants picked up their first away win of 2018 last Saturday as they beat local rivals Crewe Alexandra 1-0 - Leon Legge scoring his first goal for the club.

Not only were there brilliant performances on the pitch, the 2000 travelling fans didn't stop singing from start to finish and gave that added incentive for the players to go out and get the win.

The boss is confident that the Vale faithful will be back to their best this Saturday as we host the Grecians.

He said: "They're always important the home games. We've got an important game Saturday because of the league position of the opposition.

"We need to try and get that same atmosphere that we generated at the Crewe game. 

"The fans need to see the players putting in the effort and then they respond - they can do the same in our home games.

"We have to try and get consistent performances to draw bigger crowds meaning better atmosphere at the games."

The boss has also outlined the importance of the spine of the current squad, praising the players currently filling those positions.

Scott Brown pulled off a wonderful save with just minutes to go at Gresty Road to ensure all three points headed back to Burslem, Leon Legge scored the winning goal and has been a revelation in the heart of the defence since his arrival and Manny Oyeleke once again put in a solid performance to help dictate the game last weekend.

The boss believes if these players can maintain their form, there will be plenty more wins to come.

He said: "Leon Legge in pre-season didn't do himself justice but in the games he has been a different player all together. He's looking like the player that we wanted when we brought him in.

"With your goalkeeper you want to feel as if he gives confidence to the side which he (Brown) does. 

"With Manny, the fact that we've played better when he's been in the side and we've missed him when he's been out means that he's adapted well to this level of football.

"I think he can get better - he has a lot of good attributes and as we get more into the season I think he's only going to get better."
