"There Is Belief In The Squad" - Brown

15 September 2017

This weekend, Port Vale host Forest Green Rovers for the first time ever at Vale Park, as the Valiants look to get off the mark at home.

Despite several good performances, the Valiants sit bottom of League Two and without a win at home but with the game approaching on Saturday – the gaffer see's this as an excellent opportunity to get his side going.

He said: "We need a win".

"It's a day where we certainly want to take the three points and performance-wise, in games, we have said 'we didn’t deserve to loose that', we keep saying it.

"Sometimes, you do deserve to loose but you take the three points, so be it."

Brown has said that there is a lot of belief among the squad to put things right and hopes that the players will use this experience to improve their knowledge in the game.

"There is belief in the squad", said Brown.

"There are a couple who are fragile as you can see, maybe those who haven't been in that situation before? I think it's come on very early on in game week two or three when we played 20 minutes against Wycombe, only to go three-nil down.

"It's become difficult early on for some of these players. But, they have got to find their character and their metal to discover that this is real football now."

Port Vale will welcome the return of midfielder Michael Tonge on Saturday as he finished his suspension and Danny Pugh also nears a return.

"Tongey knows the game and he's an enthusiastic character", said Brown.

"It's fantastic to have him back and Danny Pugh is running with half a limp at the minute. He joined us on the grass today and said 'I think I've got a chance for Saturday, boss!' - and that’s the type of character we want.

"But, it's far too early for him but he's ready to give everything and give it a go. He's not a million miles away."
