THE BIG INTERVIEW | Gavin Massey

Earlier this week, we spoke to Vale’s number 19 Gavin Massey, after he has endeared himself to the Vale supporters in the early stages of his Vale Park career, with some energetic and creative performances on the right for Darrell Clarke’s side.

Massey joined the Valiants in July after a five-year spell in Greater Manchester with Wigan Athletic, where he made over 150 appearances.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed an impressive career so far, playing at Championship and League One level for the majority of his career.

With Massey having played in some of the higher divisions in the English football pyramid, he has made many amazing memories during his time in the sport, so when he spoke to us during the week, our number 19 looked back on some of his favourites so far.

Reminiscing, he said: “I made my debut at 17 at Watford, so that was a big moment, I didn’t touch the ball much, but it was still a good moment.

“I’ll go back to my time at Wigan because I spent such a long time there, there’s so many highlights. I’ve played Manchester City, probably the best team in the world, and knocked them out in the FA Cup, where I played quite a pivotal role.

“I’ve won League One twice there [at Wigan] which is such a big achievement because some players don’t go through their career winning trophies, that’s two things I can be really proud of.

“I’m here now, the boys have tasted promotion, and I know how tough it is to get promoted in League One, but it’s stepping stones, it’s about how we do this season, and then kicking on from there.”

If you want to hear more from our summer signing, the full interview will be on page 14 of this weekend’s matchday programme for the fixture against Sheffield Wednesday, priced at just £3.
