Last Time We Met Carlisle United

25 January 2019

Port Vale will be looking to build on last weekend's victory over Crawley Town when they welcome Carlisle United to Vale Park on Saturday, but can you remember what happened when the sides last met?

Neil Aspin's side made the long journey to Brunton Park back in August 2018, but it was the hosts who came out on top in Cumbria despite a late rally from the Valiants.

Carlisle were given the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot after half an hour as Connell Rawlinson fouled Tom Parkes inside the area, and Danny Grainger stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Cristian Montano, Ricky Miller and Tom Pope all went close to equalising for Vale before the home team doubled their advantage with five minutes to play. Parkes rose highest to meet Jamie Devitt's corner and direct it beyond Scott Brown.

The travelling supporters were given some brief hope late on as Luke Hannant found the top corner with a free-kick from distance, but it wasn't to be for the Valiants who succumbed to an away defeat.

In the history of the two clubs there has been 36 meetings to date, and the record is fairly even. Vale have won 13, drawn 9 and lost 14 of the fixtures, with the last victory coming on the road back in December 2017.
