Play-off chasing Stevenage will be a tough game says Askey

18 April 2019

Port Vale host Stevenage and travel to MK Dons over a busy Easter period this week and manager John Askey is expecting Stevenage to trouble them at Vale Park tomorrow afternoon.

Stevenage sit five points adrift of the play-off spots heading into the game tomorrow and have an outside chance of reaching them, but would have to pick up a win at Vale Park tomorrow if they stand any chance of doing so.

John Askey and his men stand in their way of that opportunity as the Valiants look to bounce back from last weeks defeat at Exeter City. The gaffer is hoping his players show a response but says it won't be easy.

"They still have an outside chance of getting into the play-offs and they have been playing well as the results have shown.

"We still need to get those three points to make sure we're safe. It would be great to come away Saturday knowing the clubs secure for another season.

"Playing at home we're looking forward to it. Our performances have been good of late so hopefully again we can get the crowd going and everyone can enjoy it."

The Valiants going into the game sitting 10 points clear of the relegation zone and three points off the 50 point mark which John Askey feels is more than enough to retain the clubs League Two status for next season.

The recent performances by the Valiants at Vale Park have made it a tough place for teams to play at, having picked up nine points of a potential 12 in their past four games at home.

Askey's contract runs out at the end of the season and with the a potential change in ownership at the club, talks over his future have been temporarily put on hold. This doens't worry the gaffer, who's main focus right now is ensuring Vale are playing League Two football next season.

"The main thing when we came in was to help the football club and that's what I'll continue to do that until I'm not here."

"We've still got a plan as though we're going to be here and we want to help everybody who's at the football club. We're are putting plans in place, whether it's me that takes it forward or not.
