Preview

In their final fixture of the 2017/18 season, Port Vale travel to Cambridge United with safety already secured in the fourth tier of English football.

With both managers likely to experiment with their starting line-ups, Neil Aspin will be hoping that his players can sign off with a victory and put in an improved performance following last week’s home defeat to Carlisle United.

The Valiants are unbeaten in their last five fixtures away from home, and they beat Cambridge at Vale Park back in December, so that will give them confidence going into this clash against the U’s.

The Opposition

Cambridge United have worked their way to a comfortable mid-table finish this season, with 14ththe lowest position they could drop to should they lose against Vale on Saturday.

They currently lie in 13th, but three points could see them rise to as high as 11th, so a top-half place will be the goal for Joe Dunne’s newly inherited side.

Having slipped to defeat against Newport County last weekend, the U’s will be looking to end the season on a high. Their home form has been quite strong, with 12 wins and five draws from their 22 games thus far.

One To Watch – Uche Ikpeazu

A man familiar to Vale supporters, Uche Ikpeazu is a powerful striker that has the capabilities to torment any defence in Sky Bet League Two on his day.

So far this season, the former Watford man has scored 14 goals in all competitions and he will be hungry to reach 15 on Saturday if he is selected to feature.

He has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Scottish side, Hearts, to join them in the summer, so his two-year stay at Cambridge will come to an end after Saturday’s match.

Talk

Neil Aspin: "I do appreciate the support, it's very humbling to know people want you to sign autographs and get their picture taken with me.

"I feel responsible, I am responsible, and I have to give them something better on the pitch to support.

"I want to do better, the team must do better, I want to justify the support. We've got to give them better than what they've seen and what they've had over the last couple of years."

Joe Dunne: "As I have mentioned in recent weeks, I have never enjoyed coaching a group as much as I have this one during the last two months.

"I now look forward to continuing to work alongside our talented team of staff here, in developing the exciting potential of individuals from both within our first team and beyond from the Club's youth set-up.”

Team News

After coming on as a half-time substitute against Newport County last weekend, Barry Corr could be in line for a start on Saturday. Billy Waters and Paul Lewis could also make the eleven after their returns.

David Amoo and Harrison Dunk dropped to the bench last time out, but it remains to be seen whether they will feature versus Vale. Youngsters Tom Knowles and Matt Foy could also play after impressing recently.

Vale will be without Antony Kay following his red card at home to Carlisle United, and Kyle Howkins will also be unavailable after being forced off in the same game with a knee problem.

David Worrall is also ruled out through injury, and although Kjell Knops has returned to training after a year out, this game has come to quickly for him and he will not feature.
