Idris Kanu on joining Vale

28 June 2018

After joining Port Vale on a season-long loan from Peterborough United, Idris Kanu is hoping that he can make a positive impact in Sky Bet League Two during the 2018/19 campaign.

The 18-year-old made three starts and 24 substitute appearances for the Posh in League One last season, but he now has the challenge of forcing himself into the starting line-up in a Vale shirt.

With a trip to Redditch United next Friday marking the start of the Valiants' pre-season fixture schedule, the former West Ham United youth prospect is determined to catch the eye of Neil Aspin.

"I am going to do everything I can in training tio get fit and sharp so that I have a chance of playing or starting in that match," he said.

"For the first game of the season I want to be starting and that is my aim. Supporters can expect to see lots of goals, assists and good performances."

Kanu could partner Ricky Miller in Vale's attacking line, and having played with him last season at Peterborough, he knows just how capable he is.

Top scorer last season, Tom Pope, will also aid the youngster's development and Kanu is relishing the opportunity to play with his new teammates in the coming weeks.

He said: "I was with Ricky Miller at Peterborough, he is a good player and I know he can do well - hopefully he can prove that this season.

"Personally, I am just so happy to be here, but I hope I fit in well and show the other lads what I can do to make it a good year.

"I want to score goals and I want to get assists, but the main thing is that I want to be playing. That is my biggest target, to play regularly.

"Some of my previous teammates are here, and Manny Oyeleke just signed and told me that we have a good side that can do big things.

"I can't wait to get started and hopefully it is a good year."
