Neil Aspin

Neil Aspin says he is hoping to bring in two defenders before the transfer window shuts on Wednesday.

The manager said in his press conference earlier today the club have to bring in some defenders over the next couple of days after losing Tom Anderson, who was recalled back to his parent club Burnley this morning. Neil said it was "bad news" and something he didn't expect to happen.

"Even before Tom went back we must have made enquiries for between 20 and 30 centre halves, and we still haven’t been able to bring one in."

"It's going to be difficult, but we have to bring in some defenders."

"We need to strengthen the squad but it's difficult in this month, January is not the time for long term thinking, we're only interested in the short term which is to get ourselves safe this year."

The loss of Tom Anderson is an obvious blow for Aspin. The centre half made 20 appearances for the club after signing in August and the gaffer is fully focused on bringing in a replacement.

Neil said: "Certainly my thoughts for today and tomorrow is that we have to try every avenue we can to try and bring in a couple of players."

The Valiants return to action this Saturday against Morecambe, with the manager confirming there are no new injury worries as of yet.

"We have to tread carefully with a couple of players" added the gaffer.

"Hopefully we'll have at least the players that we had available on Saturday available for this Saturday."
