MATCH PREVIEW: Port Vale vs Colchester United

26 January 2018

Take a look at all the latest news from the Port Vale camp heading into Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Colchester United.

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Fixture: Port Vale vs Colchester United

Date: Saturday 27th January

Kick-off: 3pm

Venue: Vale Park

Preview

Both Port Vale and Colchester United will look to put an end to their disappointing last couple of weeks with the pair suffering in League Two.

Colchester started the season well but have no dropped off to 11th position and five points off the play-off positions. Likewise, after a successful Christmas period, Vale have struggled to get results but will aim to put things right against The U’s.

The Opposition

Colchester are currently on a five-game winless streak where they have suffered three draws and two losses. Their last victory came on Boxing Day with a 2-0 win at Crawley Town.

Despite being just five points from the final play-off position, The U’s will be frustrated with how the season has gone following their good start to the campaign.

The last time these two-pair met came in a 1-1 draw. Marcus Harness’ header saved a point for Neil Aspin’s men in what was a good performance from The Valiants.

Talk

Neil Aspin: “The key to the Colchester game will be to play at a higher tempo.

“We have a lot of energy within the team, so it has to be improved in what we have seen over the last few weeks.”

John McGreal: “There’s tonnes of experience across their team. They’re a physical side, Tom Pope is a huge game changer – he will be a handful.”

Team News

Vale will head into Saturday’s fixture with a full squad available, with the exception of defenders Adam Yates and Kjell Knops who remain as long-term casualties.
