Brown - "They have been working ever so hard lately and the boys are buzzing."

13 March 2017

Michael Brown’s Port Vale ended their winless league run with their first win in ten last weekend with a 3-2 victory over relegation rivals Swindon Town.

The win lifted them above Swindon and into 21st, just two points from safety, and with the teams around them dropping points, the win meant that little bit more.

Brown spoke exclusively to Valiant PlayerHD after the game about the importance of the win: “It was a great win, however we got it, it was a bit nerve wracking towards the end but it is fantastic for the players.

They have been working ever so hard lately and the boys are buzzing. It is a fantastic win and we are looking forward to the next game.”

Brown was quick to praise the performance of his squad, after having things not got their way of late: “It was a great performance, the second half especially. It was a shame for Anton missing the penalty, but the boys did fantastic.

Their endeavour and desire to push on for the win and work hard for the football club was evident, and I think they did today and they got their rewards.”

Despite being pleased with the result, the 40-year old set his team up to win in a different fashion: “They did not make it easy. We knew it was going to be difficult and I was hoping for a scruffy 1-0 win. But to win like that is great, and people will go home having had value for their money today.”

JJ Hooper stood out amongst the Vale performers grabbing two goals for himself, one being a pin-point free kick. Brown hops this will give him the ability to push and perform more consistently: “It was an excellent free kick. He has got a good right foot and we have seen that today.

He needs to bring that out a little bit more than he had, but he is still learning, but hopefully that will give him that little bit more confidence.”

Vale will head into to tomorrow’s game against Northampton in high spirits and will be looking to notch three more points: “It is another massive game, bring it on. There are lots of games coming and we are looking forward to them. It is another one of the cup finals that we are looking to earn some points from.”
