Players looking forward to home fixture

Players & staff glad to be back on home soil

Paul Bodin says the staff and players are looking forward to getting back on home soil this weekend, when Shrewsbury Town are the visitors to Vale Park.

Vale’s home record this season speaks for itself and Bodin is confident that will continue on Saturday, despite Vale’s recent run.

One point in the last four games isn’t something the team will sit back on and accept, but everybody is confident the lads can turn things around, and whet better game to do that than a match which many see as a local derby.

Whether or not it is a true derby match may well cause debate amongst the supporters, but either way, it is a game Vale’s Assistant boss is looking forward to.

He said: “It is always great to play at home in front of your own support and our home record has been pretty good really so far.

“We are a little disappointed with the last game here where we missed two penalties and didn’t take advantage of a good performance.

“Shrewsbury didn’t have a good start to the season but they have crept up with a few good wins of late. We are on exactly the same points and same goal difference, so it is a good game for us.

“We just want to get back to winning ways – the staff, the players and supporters – we are all desperate to get a win and for the right reasons, to get a bit of confidence back.

“There is not an awful lot wrong with the team, there have been little details, there have been injuries to one or two which have unsettled us a bit.

“But there is still confidence throughout the staff, throughout the players so we will have a good week’s training under our belts and hopefully have as many players available so we have a couple of selection decisions to make.”
