Southend United faced Bury on Friday evening at Roots Hall and were ruthless as they thrashed the Shakers 4-1.

Noel Hunt bagged a brace while a Dave Mooney penalty and Jack Payne’s goal secured the points for Phil Brown’s side.

League leaders Burton Albion needed an 89th minute Mark Duffy strike to salvage a draw at home to Doncaster Rovers in Nigel Clough’s first game back in charge.

The sides exchanged blows as Andy Williams, Calum Butcher, Paul Keegan and Nathan Tyson all scored.

Gillingham continued their impressive form as they swept aside ten-man Millwall 3-0 at The Den.

Dominic Samuel scored twice against The Lions either side of a Bradley Dack penalty as the Gills moved up to second.

Coventry City could only manage at draw at home to Oldham Athletic as the Latics scored a last minute equaliser through Danny Philliskirk at the Ricoh Arena.

Aaron Martin had headed the Sky Blues in front early in the second half but Tony Mowbray’s side couldn’t hold out for the victory.

Billy Sharp scored against former club Scunthorpe United as Sheffield United won 1-0 at Glanford Park.

The striker’s ninth goal of the season sealed back-to-back league wins for the Blades and leaves The Iron just six points above the relegation zone.
