BETTING PREVIEW: Crawley Town vs. Port Vale

19 December 2014

Fancy A Flutter Over The Weekend?

Sky Bet cannot split Port Vale and Crawley Town for this weekend’s match at Broadfield Stadium with both sides 13/8 to win.

Rob Page’s side will be looking to rebound from Saturday’s loss to Coventry City and build on their draw at Gillingham in their last away game.

Crawley’s last game ended in a 1-0 loss to Bristol City and Vale are 7/1 to inflict the same result on John Gregory’s side.

Achille Campion, who bagged a brace in a midweek reserve game against Stoke City, is 8/1 to open the scoring on Saturday or 11/4 to net inside 90 minutes.

Around League One

Barnsley vs. Leyton Orient
Barnsley will be hoping their midweek FA Cup victory over Chester ignites their Sky Bet League 1 campaign when they host Leyton Orient on Saturday. The Tykes have not won in four league outings but are marginal favourites at 6/4 to end that run against an Orient side who have won only one in their last four but have a decent record on the road with three wins and four draws in their 10 matches. It is the first meeting between the sides since 1982, the Tykes winning on that occasion 1-0, an 8/1 shot this time. Barnsley have scored one goal in each of their last four league outings, while the O's have scored three goals in their last four on their travels so don't expect many goals in this one - under 2.5 goals is 10/11.
Top Tip: Barnsley to win and under 2.5 goals at 9/2.

Bradford City vs. Scunthorpe United
Two sides in good form go head-to-head when tenth-place Bradford City (4/5) host Scunthorpe United in Sky Bet League 1. The Bantams have won five and lost one from their last six in all competitions and are now only one point off the play-off positions prompting the League sponsor to cut their odds for promotion from 20/1 to 16/1. The Iron are also on a roll under Mark Robins with one defeat in their last ten so head to West Yorkshire high on confidence and look the value bet at 3/1.  They have won three of their last four games 2-1 and it's 12/1 for a repeat of that scoreline at the Coral Windows Stadium. Paddy Madden, with four goals in as many matches, is 6/1 to net the opener for the visitors and 7/4 to score in 90 minutes, while Billy Clarke, who has scored in each of the last three matches, is 5/1 to break the deadlock and 11/8 to score anytime. For both Madden and Clarke to score in the match is a 13/2 shot.
Top Tip: Draw and over 2/5 goals in the match at 11/1.

Coventry City vs. Fleetwood Town
Coventry (6/5) are favourites to take all three points in Sky Bet League 1 when they welcome Fleetwood Town (9/4) to the Ricoh Arena. The Sky Blues, 14th in the table, are unbeaten in their last three in the league and have failed to concede a goal in that period - they are 11/4 with the League sponsor to win to nil on Saturday. Fleetwood, in contrast, have failed to win in their last three and have generally struggled on the road, picking up nine points this season from a possible 30. The Cod Army have also struggled for goals scoring only two in their last four matches so Coventry to win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 at 21/20 in the correct score group betting may be popular. Gary Madine has been in good form for the Sky Blues of late and he's 7/4 to net anytime and 11/4 to score in a home win, while Jamie Proctor to score in a Fleetwood win is a 9/2 shot.
Top Tip: Coventry to win and under 2.5 goals at 7/2.

Crewe Alexandra vs. Bristol City
Crewe look a fair price for a result at home to title favourites Bristol City, with Sky Bet going 11/10 on the hosts avoiding defeat. They’re 4/1 to win the game, making the Robins odds-on at 4/6 to take all three points. Steve Cotterill’s side have been vulnerable to draws on the road this season having been held in four out of 10 games. That outcome is on offer at 14/5 with Sky Bet. However, away from home, Bristol City average exactly two goals per game, while their average conceded stands at 1.1 – Sky Bet offer 7/1 on the visitors to win 2-1.
Top Tip: A 1-1, 2-2 or 3-3 draw at 7/2.

Gillingham vs. Chesterfield
Gillingham are 9/4 to move level on points with Chesterfield with a home win over the Spireites on Saturday, but the visitors are the favourites. Paul Cook’s men are 23/20 to win the game, while a draw is on offer at 12/5 with Football League sponsor Sky Bet. It’ll take a five-goal swing in Gillingham’s favour for them to leapfrog Chesterfield in the table, but that’s deemed very unlikely, with the Gills priced up at 22/1 to win by three or more and 125/1 to score five or more. Intriguingly, 20 per cent of Chesterfield’s last 20 games have ended up with a 2-1 final score either way – it’s 8/1 for the visitors to win 2-1 or 10/1 for the hosts to win by the same score.
Top Tip: Both teams to score at 4/6.

MK Dons vs. Oldham Athletic
MK Dons are expected to maintain their solid home record as they’re odds-on at 3/4 to beat Oldham on Saturday. Karl Robinson’s men have won seven and lost just one of their 10 home games in Sky Bet League 1 this term, making the Latics an appealing price for a win at 18/5. They’d take a draw though, and that’s on offer at 11/4. Indeed, a draw is a result that Oldham seem happy to settle for, the visitors having registered six stalemates on the road from their 10 trips. MK Dons average an impressive 2.6 goals at home this term while their ‘goals against’ tally hovers just below the one-goal-per-game mark at Stadium MK.
Top Tip: MK Dons to win and over 2.5 goals at 13/8.

Peterborough United vs. Preston North End
Peterborough can improve their chances of promotion from 7/1 if they can beat 4/1 title contenders Preston on Saturday. Preston are the marginal favourites to win at London Road, with Sky Bet going 6/4 on the visitors, making Posh available at 17/10 for the win. Preston have picked up 19 points both away from home and at Deepdale, but they’ve registered more wins on the road (six), and they’re 7/2 to win here without conceding. Just three of Peterborough’s last 20 games have been drawn, so a result either way could be on the cards again.
Top Tip: Both teams to score at 8/11.

Rochdale vs. Notts County
Rochdale are marginally odds-on with Football League sponsor Sky Bet for their clash with fellow promotion contenders Notts County (13/5). The Dale have won both of their last two matches 4-1, against Colchester in the league and then Aldershot in the FA Cup second round, and are 33/1 to prevail by the same scoreline on Saturday. Despite currently sitting in the play-off places, the hosts are still considered 11/1 chances for promotion, while the visitors, who follow in seventh place courtesy of goal difference, are the same price to go up. Ian Henderson heads the first goalscorer market at 7/2 while Garry Thompson is considered the Magpies’ biggest threat at 6/1.
Top tip: Over 2.5 goals at 10/11.

Sheffield United vs. Walsall
Sheffield United are marginally odds-on at 19/20 with Sky Bet to see off Walsall on Saturday as they look retain momentum from their Capital One Cup heroics and return to winning ways in the league. The Blades booked a place in the semi-finals courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night but have failed to win in four in the league, meaning it is their visitors who boast far more impressive form coming into this clash. The Saddlers are unbeaten in six, collecting 14 points during that run to see them climb to 12th, just four points off the play-offs. Their hosts remain in the top-six despite their form but have drifted out to 3/1 for promotion, while Dean Smith’s men are still considered outsiders at 20/1. Blades leading scorer Mark McNulty heads the first goalscorer betting at 5/1 while Tom Bradshaw, who has 10 goals to his name this season, is considered the visitors’ biggest threat at 11/2.
Top Tip: McNulty and Bradshaw both to score at 11/2.

Swindon Town vs. Doncaster Rovers
Second-placed Swindon are odds-on at 4/5 with Football League sponsor Sky Bet as Doncaster (3/1) look to halt their hosts’ winning run. The Robins arrive on the back of five successive victories in League 1, a string of results which has seen their promotion odds cut to 5/4. Rovers, on the other hand, are without a win in three and are 20/1 outsiders to be playing Championship football next season. 11-goal frontman Andy Williams heads the first goalscorer betting at 7/2, while Curtis Main, who netted his sixth goal of the season last Saturday, is considered the visitors’ biggest threat at 7/1.
Top tip: Andy Williams to score in both halves at 8/1.

Yeovil Town vs. Colchester United
Yeovil are even-money with Football League sponsor Sky Bet to see off fellow strugglers Colchester on Saturday. The U’s head into the game as 13/5 outsiders and 5/2 to end their losing streak with a draw, having lost their last five league games. Their hosts arrive in more encouraging form, with two wins from their last three in League 1, prompting their relegation odds to drift to 2/1. James Hayter and Freddie Sears are joint-favourites in the first goalscorer betting at 11/2 apiece.
Top tip: James Hayter to score and Yeovil to win at 9/4.
