A supporter's view of things Port Vale

It’s been a disappointing week overall in Vale country. Yes we got a point against Bristol City without really deserving one, but the Rochdale game was a poor one considering their present status. It’s an avenue to Wembley and a revenue stream closed for another season.

That’s the lot of a football fan though – some weeks it is great, some weeks it is downright awful, but we keep coming back for more. The highs of supporting your local team are tremendous, as per the end of last season, and the lows make those successes even more special.

It would be nice to win every week, but would it be as enjoyable? I have a mate who lives in London and has supported Chelsea for many years, seeing them play in front of 7,000 home crowds and he went to Scarborough to see them lose in the League Cup. When the success of recent years came along he got bored (and a lot poorer) – so much so that he now supports Corinthian Casuals!

Maybe a bit drastic, but it just goes to show the enjoyment of our great game is wondering what is in store for our team next. That’s what it’s all about, anticipation and hope. Isn’t it?
