GREW LOOKING AHEAD

19 March 2013

Vale assistant manager looking forward to the run-in

Despite the win at Bootham Crescent at the weekend, there will be no letting up for the players in the build-up to Saturday’s home game against Aldershot.

The squad will prepare as they have been doing and concentrating on the job in hand with just seven league fixtures left o play.

Mark Grew explains: “We are working the lads hard this week, we have done it all season and we are not going to stop now, we’ve got some difficult games coming up.

“This one on Saturday against Aldershot is going to be a difficult game. They are struggling down at the bottom and they need three points because it is very tight.

“The lads certainly won’t be expecting an easy game because they are fighting for their lives. They don’t want to go into that Conference League because it is a difficult league to get out of.”

Vale, of course, are concentrating on the other end of the table where they currently occupy  one of the automatic promotion places and Grew says he is looking forward to the run-in.

“There is quite a bit of a gap now between eighth and seventh and Southend need to win every game to get in there and the ones below us need to win games to get into that third and second place.

“Gillingham are going to be hard to catch now but it is interesting at both ends of the league, but looking at our run-in, it’s a run-in which I want to play.

“We will face Cheltenham, Burton and Northampton and we want to play all of those because it is in our own hands – if we win those games we stay above them, so I am looking forward to it.

“We don’t want to look too far in front. Saturday is a massive game and we need to get that done and then start looking at what’s ahead.

“Myself and the gaffer are going to Rochdale tonight to check them over because we have got them coming up, so we are looking in front, but Saturday is the one we are concentrating on in the next few days.”
