Vale sign Robertson and Tomlin to join

27 June 2013

Robertson signs two-year deal and Tomlin will follow on July 1

Port Vale Football Club can confirm the signing of defender Chris Robertson on a two-year contract and the imminent signing of striker Gavin Tomlin, who is set to join the club on July 1.

Striker Tomlin will join from former League 2 rivals Southend United where he finished as their top scorer last season with 16 goals.

Central defender Robertson, 26, joins the Valiants from League 1 side Preston North End after previously spending five years with Torquay United.

The duo join just in time to meet their new teammates as Micky Adams’ squad return for pre-season and the Vale boss is delighted with his new acquisitions.

Adams said: “Chris Robertson is a centre-half and six foot three, he has got good experience in League 1 at Preston.

“I was impressed with him when he played for Torquay and featured in Play-Off games with them, he’s going to be a decent addition to the squad

“We’ve been after a centre-half and Chris fits the bill.”

New central defender Robertson spoke after putting pen to paper on a two-year-contract.

Robertson said: “I am pleased to arrive at Port Vale it has been quite a quick turn around, I’m obviously really excited.

“The club is on the up and there is a good atmosphere around the place at the moment with regards to the promotion last year, I am ready to get stuck in.”

Adams has reinforced his striking options by bringing in former Southend United striker Tomlin who is set to sign July 1.

“Gavin has scored goals regularly for Southend and was their top scorer last season.

“He can play wide as well, he will be a very useful addition to the forward line,” said Adams.

Striker Tomlin was thrilled to finally work with Adams, after he admitted the Vale manager had been interested in signing him prior to his move to Southend United last summer.

Tomlin said: “The manager showed a massive interest in me, I was always told by friends and fellow experienced professionals that you have to go where you are wanted.

“Getting promoted, you’ve done really well last season, it’s a good team and you’ve got some really exciting players so it’s a pleasure to be here.“
