Vale reserves began their Central League Cup campaign with a hard earned victory at the Greenhous Meadow.

Sam Molyneux and Alex Fletcher both had shots that flew wide before Vale hit back with a Jordan Hugill header that went just over. Ryan Lloyd then went even closer after a great run from the half way line ended with a shot that hit the inside of the post.

Shrewsbury almost drew level when Dave McAllister hit a shot that rebounded off the post but Vale hung on to be worthy winners. The other two teams in the group are Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers who we will meet in the New Year.
