Vale got their just reward after a hard working performance

Vale boss Micky Adams was pleased with the performance and the result in his side’s first match of the season after Vale came from behind to earn a point against Brentford.

Speaking after the final whistle the Vale boss said: “I got everything I wanted out of the game, other than the three points.

“Brentford showed their quality in the second half but we hung in there, we dug deep and we managed to get a point against one of the favourites for the league, so we are delighted with that.

“Brentford are a quality side. They came with a game plan and we tried to stifle that as much as we could.

“I thought we started the game sloppy and a bit nervous. There were a couple of sloppy passes and we gave the ball away cheaply.

the line. “They scored the goal, which was disappointing because we have allowed the full back to get forward and then to cut inside, when we should really be showing him down

“But what a great finish, and if that’s the quality of full back finishing then we are in for areal shock when centre forwards start scoring goals against us.

“It was a terrific start for them , but give us a little bit of credit, I thought that we then started to come into the game.

“We got crosses into the box and the long throw was causing them a few problems as well and to go in at the interval at 1-1, we were well pleased with that.”

One of the pleasing aspects of the game was the Vale players’ willingness to work hard throughout the game and to close down whenever their opponents had possession.

Micky continued: “Organisation and preparation for any game is when you have not got the ball. We had got to make sure that we limited them to few chances.

“There are areas of the game that we can improve on. We allowed Donaldson to get down the sides at times and turn and we didn’t lock on at throw-ins.

“They got out too easily at throw-ins at times, but these are things you can work on and if that’s all we have got to worry about, then we’ll be okay.”
