Ainsworth to play his final game on Saturday

It looks like there will be a double celebration this weekend at Adams Park, venue of Vale’s last match of the season, against Wycombe Wanderers.

Vale will take another massive away following, ensuring a carnival atmosphere and with promotion already sewn up – barring an extremely unlikely massive 28 goal swing – the visiting supporters will be without any final day concerns.

Both home and away fans will also be cheering on the Chairboys’ player manager together, in what has been announced as Gareth Ainsworth’s final game as a player.

The former Vale favourite, who made 59 appearances for the Valiants between September 1997 and October 1998 before being sold to Wimbledon for £2 million, will make a landmark appearance on Saturday.

appearance in all competitions and after this weekend he will concentrate solely on football management.thDepending on whether or not he selects himself, of course, it will be his 600

A winger of high quality and exciting to watch, Ainsworth soon became a fans’ favourite in his time at Vale Park and he has always commanded a rapturous reception whenever he has returned.

No doubt both sets of supporters will show him the ultimate respect on Saturday afternoon when he finally draws the curtain on his playing career.
