MIDFIELDER READY

Kingsley James ready to step in at centre half if needed

Makeshift centre half Kingsley James says he would have no qualms about playing there against Forest Green Rovers this weekend should Clayton McDonald not recover from injury in time.

A second half substitute at Northampton on Saturday, Kingsley, alongside central defensive partner Joe Davis, did a good job subduing the ever dangerous Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Kingsley said: “I enjoyed it to be honest. I’ve played there a few times, I played there at Sheffield United when I was younger, but I prefer to play centre midfield obviously.

“I just wanted to play, no matter what position I played in so I came on and did what I could.

“Adebayo Akinfenwa is a tough lad and he is hard to handle. The gaffer told me not to try and win things I don’t feel I can win, so I stood off him and tried not to dive in.

“A lot of teams haven’t been able to deal with Akinfenwa, so it was good to come on and have a battle against someone who is really strong and so different to what I would play against in midfield.

“If people are still inured and Clayton isn’t ready and the gaffer chooses to play me there then I will be delighted to play against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

“I think Joe Davis and I could do well together. Joe is a good player and he has done well when he has played this season, as he did last season.

“I want to be in the team every week and obviously I am disappointed when I am not in the team, but we have been playing well so I can understand the position the gaffer is in.

“It is really good to be around the team and coming on in the last couple of games has been good. Now I am just trying to establish myself and keep getting the odd game and showing what I can do.”
