DEFENDER WARNS OF TOUGH GAME

1 October 2012

Clayton McDonald says the team must prepare right for the Dagenham & Redbridge game

Clayton McDonald is obviously as pleased as anybody with the three points we got at  the Coral Windows Stadium on Saturday, but he won’t be getting carried away with Vale’s good start to the season.

He said: “It’s nice to get three points at a place like Bradford because it is a tough place to go. The lads have done well, but it is just a victory and now we have got to move on and look to Tuesday.

“You can’t get carried away. It is early doors and the job is to stay consistent and get points on the board.

“Every game in this league is a hard game. The gaffer tells us to keep our feet on the ground because we haven’t achieved anything yet.

“You need to prove it week in week out, it doesn’t matter who you play or where you play, you have to graft and you have to earn the right to win games.

“We just go out and give a hundred and ten per cent for the fans, for ourselves and for the gaffer and hopefully get the win.

Some people are expecting Vale to take another three points from Tuesday night’s match against Dagenham and Redbridge, but as Clayton says, you have to treat every game in the right manner.

He said: “It doesn’t matter if you are playing Dagenham & Redbridge or Manchester United, you have to go out and set your stall and do everything right.

“Dagenham won on Saturday so they will be on a high. They will be coming to get at us so we have got to stand up to that test and hopefully get the three points.

“It’s all about consistency and trying to get points on the board. We have got to remain focussed and not even think about the league table, just think about doing well enough tomorrow to get points from the game.
