SELECTION POSER FOR VALE

27 November 2012

McDonald's injury could cause problems

Micky Adams has been given a bit of a selection headache in the heart of the Vale defence ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Bramall lane.

Clayton McDonald limped off after less than a quarter of an hour at Aldershot at the weekend and Liam Chilvers is unable to face Sheffield United.

Assistant Manager Mark Grew explains: “Clayton has pulled a muscle at the top of his thigh and at the moment he is looking doubtful.

“Liam Chilvers is cup-tied as well after playing for Telford in one of the qualifying rounds, but luckily Gareth Owen is now back in training so hopefully he will be available.

“So we have got cover with Gareth and of course Joe Davis is also available to us, so one way or another we have the position covered.

Mark Grew says Vale have no intentions of going to Bramall Lane looking for anything but a victory, though he warns the defence must be on their toes.

He said: “We’ve got to be resolute at the back and keep a solid shape, but if we go there to defend we will lose.

“We only know one way to play and that is to attack people. We’ve had a lot of success this season from doing that and we’re not going to change it.

“Everybody will be expecting them to win, but we’re on a high at the moment and we will go tyo Sheffield to enjoy it.”
