Born in February 1958, Steve was a right winger who began his footballing career with Birmingham City.
He moved on to Wrexham in 1978 and scored for them in the 1979 Welsh Cup Final as well as appearing for them in the European Cup Winners Cup.
He moved to the Vale in October 1982 on a free transfer as a replacement for Mark Chamberlain after Wrexham had to prune their wage bill and he quickly settled into the promotion chasing Vale team.
He was a regular in the side as they gained promotion in 1982/83 and was named in the PFA Fourth Division team for that season. He also remained a regular in the side the following campaign.
At the end of the 1983/84 season he requested a move which he later regretted, and joined Chester, in those days managed by John McGrath, the man who had brought him to the Vale. He had scored 6 goals for the Vale in 82 appearances.
After two years there he wound up his playing career with Rhyl, Llangollen and finally his home town team, Tamworth.
Steve then became a landscape gardener, but was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer earlier this year.
