BURGE GLAD TO BE BACK

15 August 2012

Injury nightmare is now hopefully firmly in the past

Midfielder Ryan Burge impressed many when he came off the bench during the second half against Burnley on Tuesday night, but he says he is happy to be part of things after a nightmare twelve months when he had to watch from the sidelines.

He said: “I have been out for quite a while after missing all of last year. It has been a nightmare, nobody wants to spend twelve months out of the game, so getting games and being part of the team is the main thing for me.

“When I was 15 years old I had eighteen months out with an injury. It was my other knee then so I know what to expect and what you have o do to get back onto the pitch.

“It is hard enough anyway during the week when everyone is going out training, but it is especially hard on a match day when there is a good atmosphere in the stadium and you are not part of it.

“I haven’t had any problems during the close season and hopefully now I can keep improving and doing whatever I can to earn a place in the team.

“I want to be playing – nobody wants to be sitting on the bench, but at the end of the day you are part of the team and you just have to do what is asked of you when you get on and take your chance.

“Whether I start or not is not down to me, I can only keep doing my best, giving one hundred per cent than it is down to the manager.

“I obviously want to be part of the team and progress and have a good season with Port Vale.”
