PREVIEW: Notts County v Port Vale

31 December 2017

Port Vale get their 2018 underway on the road with a visit to Notts County. Take a look at all you need to know for the fixtur

Competition: Sky Bet League Two
Fixture: Notts County vs Port Vale
Date: Monday 1st January 2018
Venue: Meadow Lane
Kick-off: 3pm

Port Vale will look to start the New Year the way they finished 2017 with Neil Aspin’s men currently unbeaten in five league games.

Recent results over Coventry City and Luton Town highlight how well The Valiants are playing at the minute as they travel to Kevin Nolan’s Notts County.

County currently sit second in the Sky Bet League Two table as they come off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Swindon Town.

The Opposition

The World’s Oldest Football League side have had an impressive season so far under the new leadership of Kevin Nolan who has taken them to second in the table so far.

They sit just four points behind leaders Luton Town with high hopes of being promoted to League One by the end of the season.

County haven’t won in their last two home games where they drew to Grimsby Town and Cambridge United. They last played Vale in September where they ran out 1-0 winners at Vale Park.

Neil Aspin: “The atmosphere in the camp is really good. If we play like we did against Luton the mood will be really good and will have a positive impact.”

Kevin Nolan: “There has been a lot going on and I am delighted with everything that has happened. Hopefully 2018 will be as kind to us.”

Team News

James Gibbons looks set to return from his suspension with an inclusion expected to be on the bench.

Defenders Adam Yates and Kjell Knops remain sidelined.

Notts County’s Jonathan Forte, Shola Ameboi and Richard Duffy face late fitness tests ahead of the New Year clash at Meadow Lane as Rob Milsom looks to miss out.

Kevin Nolan’s side will also be without ‘keeper Adam Collin and midfielder Michael O’Connor.
