Monty on Return

Monty on Return

After scoring his first goal of the Sky Bet League Two season against Morecambe on Tuesday evening, Cristian Montano can’t wait to move forward following his return from injury.

Coming on as a late substitute handed the winger some vital minutes and he also played for the reserve side on Wednesday as they beat Doncaster Rovers.

On a crazy few days for him, he said: “It’s always good to play. The match fitness is key and you can only get that by playing games of football.

“I was glad that I was involved on Tuesday night and it was great to come on and get my goal as well.

“Getting three points and a clean sheet will help the confidence of the team and hopefully we can build on that.

“Personally, I hope to continue building fitness like I did on Wednesday against Doncaster, playing 45 minutes.”

During his spell away from the pitch, Vale appointed Neil Aspin and his coaching staff. Montano now knows that it is up to them and the medical staff to decide when he is fit to play a full first team game.

He said: “Whether or not I get 90 minutes is up to the coaching staff, if they feel like I’m ready to start I’ll be prepared for it.

“At the moment I am just concentrating on working hard, training well and getting ready for when the time comes.”

The Valiants travel to high-flying Exeter City on Saturday afternoon searching to make it a hat-trick of victories.

Ahead of that clash, Montano also praised the spirit within the squad

He said: “No matter how you do it, getting three points is key and the way we did it against Cheltenham was great - people throwing bodies on the line.

“Winning that and then having the midweek game so close, the momentum builds. We went to Morecambe, scored three and kept a clean sheet - that’s all that matters.”
