Port Vale striker Matty Taylor says he is excited to show Vale supporters his best form after making his debut as a second half substitute on Tuesday night against Barnsley.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s League One clash with Exeter City, Taylor said he is excited to showcase his best after reuniting with Darrell Clarke.

“I was really excited to get out there,” Taylor said of his debut on Tuesday night. “I had a little knock in the last game before I came out on loan, it maybe took a couple more days than I’d anticipated. I’m feeling good now and I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

“I know how the gaffer sets up his teams and the style of play. From the games I’ve seen so far, there’s been plenty of balls in the box, fingers crossed I can get on the end of a few. The fans can expect a lot of hard work, feeding off crosses, sharp movements and I like to set up my teammates.

“This is a great set of lads, when you come into any new environment, it sharpens up your senses. You can see why they’ve had successes in previous seasons!

“There’s a great set of forwards too; they all bring different sets of qualities and strengths. We are wanting to get firing and start to win more games.”

The Valiants are currently seven matches without a win in League One but Taylor says hard work and belief will see Clarke’s side right in their quest for a return to winning ways.

“The gaffer is always speaking about where he wants to reach,” Taylor said. “It’s about getting better and better all of the time. That was a big part of the reason why I wanted to work with him, he gets the best out of me. Some of my best goals came under him in my career and hopefully I can add a few more.

“Every team up and down the country has these moments and these periods. It’s not unusual. You can only put it right by working hard, learning from your mistakes and ultimately believing that you’re going to win the next game. Everyone in the changing room has that belief!”
