Amoo keen for a goal ahead of Scunthorpe United

22 November 2019

His pace down the wing is something that will set the fear into a full back, but David Amoo says he's still looking to add more to his game as Vale prepare for their trip to Scunthorpe tomorrow.

After turning down a contract extension at Cambridge United last season, John Askey snapped up Amoo on a one-year deal here at the Vale and the winger started the season in great form.

Amoo showed promising signs from the get go in pre-season and took that form into the start of the league, scoring three goals in his first eight games for the club.

His last goal came from the penalty spot against Shrewsbury Town in the Leasing.Com Trophy back in September, a stat the 28 year old is hoping to update tomorrow afternoon against Scunthorpe.

"I'm an attacking player so I want to score goals and get back amongst the goals! It will happen, it's football but sometimes you go through a bit of a goal drought.

"I'll get a goal soon enough. 4-3-3 is the formation I probably enjoy the most where I can bring width and get down the wing so I enjoy the formation.

"I'm feeling good, there's different things which I've needed to improve on and work on. We're getting wins together when we were struggling a bit away from home but there's little things which I'm just trying to improve on."

Vale head to Scunthorpe United tomorrow in hope of picking up their fourth straight away win in all competitions, which would also extend the unbeaten run for Askey's side in all competitions to six.

The Valiants had failed to pick up an away win all season until a last minute strike from Will Atkinson at Bradford City in October, secured all three points and the players haven't looked back since.

Reflecting on the fine form the Vale have been in recently, Amoo says there's a variety of factors that have contributed towards it and hopes it can continue.

"We've got a good team and we've got a good squad. We're working hard for each other and we're finding different ways to win with different scorers.

"Defensively we've been really good as well. The defenders have been really good and they've been picking up a lot of clean sheets lately so I think it's a combination of a load of things.

"The managers been great, he keeps us motivated, on our toes and focused and that's the most important thing. He keeps us hungry, we don't rest on our laurels we always know every game is a big game. He's been great."
