Neil Aspin: "The players will keep battling"

28 January 2018

Port Vale manager Neil Aspin has praised his players for not letting their heads drop yesterday in their 2-2 draw against Colchester, but admits they can't keep conceding the type of goals they have been.

The Valiants picked up a hard earned point and showed great spirit having been behind twice in the game, something the manager was impressed with.

"If you're in a fight at the wrong end of the table you've got to show some fight, and the players have to be prepared to fight and every games going to be a battle until the end of the season."

"They've shown they will keep battling but we cant concede the type of goals we conceded today and expect to win games."

"We have to defend better to give ourselves a platform to try and win the game."

Vale found themselves a goal behind against the run of play after just 12 minutes, before Dave Worrall found the net to cancel out Courtney Senior's earlier strike.

Worrall later repeated his first half heroics in second half, drawing the Valiants level once again in the dying minutes of the game, after Drey Wright put Colchester 2-1 up just before the half time interval.

The midfielder has now scored 3 goals this season, and the manager wants him to keep adding to his tally.

"He's got a lot of good qualities, and the only criticism I would put at him is the end product."

"He gets into some good positions but needs to score more goals, but today he's obviously come up with two goals which has been invaluable and he's done really well today."

"If he can chip in with goals, that's going to be a big part for the second half of the season."
