Raglan reflects on Vale debut

4 February 2018

Defender Charlie Raglan was delighted with his return to Vale Park and was happy to come away with a clean sheet on his debut for the club.

However, Charlie knows that his side must start to pick up victories if they are to progress in League Two following the 0-0 draw with Morecambe on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, the 24-year old says he was pleased with his performance in front of the Vale faithful.

“It feels great to be back,” he said.

“Ever since I came in on Tuesday I’ve seen a lot of old faces and new faces but it’s a familiar surrounding for me.

“There were a lot of good times here and I grew up here too, so it’s great to finally make my first-team debut.”

It was straight into the first-team picture for Charlie as Neil Aspin handed his first start for The Valiants after leaving the club five years ago.

He said: “It was very pleasing for me.

“But, I won’t take that for granted. We have a lot of competition now from the lads who are here and the lads who he has brought in.

“We understand the importance of defending well and keeping clean sheets, so we have to take the positives from the game.”

Reflecting on the goalless draw, Raglan reveals that he was pleased to come away with a clean sheet after impressing on his debut but reiterates the importance of getting positive results on the board.

“It was good to get a clean sheet,” he added.

“But, we know that we need to win games. I felt that we didn’t create enough. We had the better chances in the second half so we need to work on that and get the balance right.

“After watching on my first game, I am confident that we can do that.”
