  • Harrison: “I trust the manager and he trusts me; if I was having a bad game like that before I would get dragged at 60 but the gaffer put trust in me and I scored the winner.”

Port Vale striker Ellis Harrison stated his performance in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town was arguably his worst in a Vale shirt despite scoring his first two Vale Park goals.

The Welsh striker now has five goals in seven league matches for Darrell Clarke’s side, though the striker admitted his brace masked over a performance he felt dipped below his high standards.

“It is a good start but I can’t get complacent,” he told iFollow the Vale. “It is probably the worst I have played in a Port Vale shirt but that’s hidden because I scored two goals and it looks like I didn’t have a bad game!

“It was a good pass by Butts [Dan Butterworth] in the first half and the header, well that is my strong point – I like to win headers, like to challenge and like to have a battle.

“I am confident at the moment, the ball seems to find me but in a few months it might not find me and I could be pulling my hair out. At the moment, the quality into the box is really good and that is what I have been asking for over the past couple of years as a striker.

“I came here to play for the gaffer; I trust him and he trusts me, if I was having a bad game like that before I would get dragged at 60 but the gaffer put trust in me and I scored the winner.”
