  • Conlon: “The main thing is that we took a point out of the game – I think we deserved it and maybe more.”

Port Vale captain Tom Conlon says his side more than deserved their point as the Vale made his seven points from their last three League One away games with a 2-2 draw at Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

Reflecting post-match with iFollow the Vale, Conlon said his first goal of the season – a rare header – secured a well-earned point at Adams Park, with Darrell Clarke’s men potentially meriting all three points.

“I like to think I am quite good in the air and have a fairly decent leap,” Conlon said of his equaliser. “It was such a good feeling to get on the scoresheet, it is something I have been wanting to do for a while and I am really pleased to.

“The main thing is that we took a point out of the game – I think we deserved it and maybe more.

“They scored two worldies really, especially the first one, it came out of nowhere. That is something we have been doing well lately – coming back from behind – and it is part of us as a club. We don’t want to keep doing it, we want to take the lead but to come from behind twice away at Wycombe is a good thing.”

When asked about his role as captain and how the Vale are adapting to life in League One, Conlon added:

“I love it; every day I feel so lucky to come in and be captain of this football club.

“We want to keep building; we are up to 10th and like the gaffer says, we don’t want to stand still - I think it is a really good start but we want to kick on now.”
