#Burgess2022 | Scott Burgess signs new two year deal

6 February 2020

The club are delighted to announce that Scott Burgess has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

Burgess signed for the Vale last May from Bury having spent time on loan in non-league. After having to wait patiently for his chance in the side, the 22 year-old has taken his opportunity with both hands and become a regular starter for John Askey.

So far in his first season at the the Vale, the midfielder has made 23 appearances in all competitions whilst finding the net on three occasions. Burgess will be looking for his 12th consecutive start on Saturday when we face Northampton Town.

The midfielders first goal for the Valiants came against his former side, Macclesfield Town, in the Leasing.Com Trophy back in September. He followed that up the very next game with his first league goal against Leyton Orient.

Committing himself to the Vale until 2022, Burgess admits he's loving life at Port Vale and is certainly developing as a player under manager John Askey.

"I am enjoying my football. I feel like I have been doing well, the team has been doing well and it is a great place to be around at the minute. The club is on the up so hopefully I can continue doing that.

"I learned a lot at Macclesfield. I was only 19 at the time and now I feel he [John Askey] is really helping me develop both sides of the game. I enjoy going forward anyway and the defensive side of the game is the main thing I have had to improve.

"He has talked about positioning and how I have to be more aggressive, it is only benefiting me."
