Match Preview - Cheltenham Town

13 October 2017

Port Vale vs CheltenhamTown

Competition - Sky Bet League Two

Date - Saturday 14th October 2017

Venue - Vale Park

Preview

Neil Aspin will take his place in the dugout for the second time on Saturday following his appointment as Vale manager last week.

Aspin’s first game in charge at the helm at Vale Park ended in a 1-2 defeat against Grimsby, after his side took a 1-0 lead into half time.

Gary Johnson’s Cheltenham Town will provide the opposition as they travel to Burslem. Three league wins on the bounce will have the Robins in high spirit.

However, the Valiants will be looking to kick-start their season with their first win in front of the Vale Park faithful.

The Opposition

Cheltenham Town have got off to a decent start this season and as a result, they lie 12th in Sky Bet League Two with 17 points to their name.

After falling close to the drop last season, the Robins have started as they mean to go on, and build on a 21st placed finish from last years campaign.

Over the course of their last four league outings, they have not tasted defeat. Most recently, a last gasp winner from Danny Wright saw them come out victorious over visiting Swindon Town.

Talk:

Neil Aspin: “I can’t take the job and then start complaining. I’ve got to get on with it and work with the players we have and try to get them into a formation we are comfortable with, we have a bad combination in conceding goals regularly and we are not scoring enough.”

Gary Johnson: ““We have got to work as hard as we are working, show the ability we have and score the goals that we have been while not making mistakes at the back.”

Team News

Port Vale remain without Rob Lainton, Kjell Knops and Anton Forrester due to longer term injury problems. Cristian Montano returned with a 30-minute cameo midweek against Rotherham United reserves.

Luke Summerfield and Nathan Clarke are injury doubts for Grimsby according to the Mariners’ manager, Russell Slade.
