Neil Aspin admits that there is a good feeling around Vale Park at the moment as his side continue to climb away from the lower reaches of Sky Bet League Two.
The Valiants are now on a four-match unbeaten run in the division, with the latest positive result coming in the form of a win over Coventry City on Boxing Day.
As table-topping Luton Town travel to Burslem on Saturday, the manager is hoping that the feel-good factor continues regardless of the outcome.
He said: “If you’re getting results then I think there is always a good feeling around any club, but the key is to try and keep that feeling all of the time.
“You’re going to get bad results during the season and some performances which aren’t great - that’s the time where people have got to pull together.
“When you’re getting results, everything is much rosier in the camp, but it’s how you overcome setbacks that proves vital.
“Nothing is easy in football. We’ve strung together some good results, but we’ve not achieved anything yet and nobody is getting carried away.”
Vale are eight points above the bottom two going into this weekend’s set of fixtures, but with Luton and Notts County to play in the space of two days, Aspin is looking forward to what will be a busy period.
The manager has praised the work rate and commitment of his players on several occasions already this season, and he insists they deserve full credit for the recent upturn in fortunes.
“It’s the players who have to deal with the stick when they’re not doing well and they deserve the credit for the way they’ve responded since we came into the club,” Aspin said.
“They’re doing the job on the pitch and they’re working exceptionally hard, so it’s nice to hear opposing managers and supporters recognising that they’re doing a good job.”
Although picking up points out on the pitch will always be a priority for Aspin, he knows just how important it is to create a positive environment around the football club if success is to be achieved.
He said: “As a manager you can’t predict what’s going to happen in the matches, but what you can do is create an atmosphere around the club which is positive.
“You can involve the local community more and try to interact with supporters, and they’re things that you can do to spread positivity
“There has to be a humility amongst the players and everybody who works for the club because that increases the affinity between supporters and Port Vale."
