SKIPPER ASKS FOR MORE OF THE SAME

Loft wants to make sure nobody takes their foot off the pedal

With fifteen games remaining, skipper Doug Loft is making sure the whole squad stay on their toes and keep their concentration levels up.

He knows the lads have to continue doing what they have been doing up to now and to not take their collective foot off the pedal.

He says: “There’s still a long way to go and there is going to be a lot of hard games to come so we are not taking anything for granted – we know it is a hard league, but we are looking forward to the challenge.

“I think we have been playing better at home, we have been using the width of our pitch and getting crosses into the box and creating chances and I think we have been looking stronger as a unit at the back as well.

“We know Morecambe are a strong side and we are expecting a very hard game on Saturday against them.

“We won at Morecambe earlier in the season but since I have been at the club I don’t think we have beaten them twice in a season, so it shows what type of team they are.

“They get the ball up top nice and early and they are strong and physical and like a lot of teams in League Two they will be very hard to play against and we know they will create a lot of chances.

“Kevin Ellison is a very good player for them. He scored against us at their place back in August so we know the threat he poses, but our defenders are looking good at the moment and we are confident we can win the game.

Although he is ready to do a job for the team wherever boss Micky Adams chooses to play him, the team captain is enjoying life back in his favoured position, where he feels he can contribute that little bit extra.

He said: “I am enjoying it now I am back in the middle of the park. I am getting a lot more of the ball, but Daniel Jones has come in at left back and done brilliantly for us – he’s a top player.

“I love to get on the ball and I am able to do that more now and I can dictate the game more and get everyone organised.

“You will always need players in the squad who can slot in playing in different positions and I think we have got that. We have got quite a few players who are willing and who can play out of position.

“I played at left back for quite a while for the gaffer and did a job for him until he was able to bring somebody in, but I am enjoying it back in midfield now.
