Match Report | Leyton Orient 0-0 Port Vale

12 March 2024

A solid point away from home as it ends goalless in East London.

With difficult pitch conditions it was through the air that the Valiants had their first attempt at goal. Tom Sang’s cross on 27 minutes was met by Jesse Debrah who got his head to the ball but his effort went over the O’s bar.

Just three minutes later we had a great chance to take the lead when Gavin Massey got down the right wing and floated a cross into the middle for James Wilson. The striker's volley was just miss timed as that too went over the bar.

The hosts responded on 37 minutes with Rob Hunt venturing forward and having an effort from range on his left foot. Fortunately for the Valiants’ defence his strike was high and wide.

The second half began slowly with neither side creating any real threat. Substitute Ruel Sotiriou had the first real effort which came after the hour mark. He found space in the area and managed to fight off multiple challenges but his effort was well wide in the end from a tight angle.

Orient came again on 76 minutes with Shaq Forde on the right wing. He cut in on his left foot and looked to curl one goalwards but a magnificent save from Connor Ripley who tipped it over the bar denied the hosts from taking the lead.

Two minutes later Sotiriou broke through the Vale defence and went one on one with Ripley. Sotiriou’s shot beat Ripley but cannoned back off the crossbar before a foul was awarded to the Valiants for a push as Orient tried to force the rebound home.
