An attacking midfielder with plenty of flare who began his career with National League North side, Guiseley. He made his debut for the Guiseley in December 2015.

Just the next month, Whitfield signed for Bournemouth and spent the majority of the 2015/16 season on loan with Kidderminster Harriers. The midfielder scored on his debut for the National League side, in their 2-2 draw with Altrincham.

Having immediately impressed, Whitfield’s stay at Aggborough was extended until the end of the season – he went onto score six goals in 31 appearances whilst with Kidderminster earning him the club’s Player of the Year as well as the Supporters Player of the Year.

Whitfield’s next loan came with Yeovil Town in August 2016, where he initially would stay until January 2017. Again, impressing right off the bat, the former Bournemouth man’s stay with Yeovil was extended until the end of the season. He scored his first goal in the Football League in a 2-2 draw with Stevenage.

The midfielder’s final loan spell came with Port Vale in August 2017, again signing a contract extension keeping him at Vale Park until the end of the season.

Whitfield quickly became a fans favourite amongst the Vale supporters, so much so that he signed a permanent contract with Neil Aspin’s side in August 2018, as the boss was insistent on giving the former loanee a second chance.
