Hornby signed academy forms at Burton Albion following spells at both Redditch United and Halesowen Town's respective youth setups. Despite not making a first team appearance for the Brewers, loan moves ensured that his development continued and vital experience was gained.

The 22-year-old does have experience of senior football. After helping steer Brackley Town clear of relegation from the National League North during the second half of the 2015/16 campaign, Hornby was chosen as Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.

He then spent last season at Kidderminster Harriers where he impressed at the Aggborough Stadium. The club reached the semi-final of the National League North Play-Offs and the goalkeeper gained plaudits once more.

Now a Port Vale player, Hornby will be relishing the chance to stake his claim for a starting spot between the posts. Having signed a two-year deal, he is contracted until the summer of 2019.
