The Gaffer Signs a New Deal

22 December 2017

Port Vale Football Club are delighted to announce that Neil Aspin has signed a new deal here at the club.

The manager’s original deal was due to expire at the end of this season, however, due to the impact he has had since joining in October, the club felt that he was the right person to take the club forward.

Aspin’s new deal will now run until May 2020.

He had an impressive 48.6% win ratio over 600 games in non-league before joining Vale.

When he joined, Port Vale were only outside of the relegation places on goal difference and five points adrift of the team in 21st position.

During his short time at ValePark in a managerial capacity, he guided the club to the second round of the FA cup with an impressive 2-0 win against league 1 outfit Oxford United and the knock-out stages of the Checkatrade Trophy.

Further, he has improved on his impressive non-league win ratio and is currently enjoying a 50% win ratio at ValePark that has lifted them to 18th place in the table and created optimism throughout the Club.

Upon signing his new deal, Aspin said: “When I first came, I think that it was a chance for the club to have a look at me, and at the moment things have gone okay and obviously I am really pleased to extend my contract.”

“I am very realistic. Managers tend to not last very long, and you never get ahead of yourself. We have made some improvements and taken some steps forward but there is a long way to go.”

He continued: “I’d like to think that I am going to be here for a while, and if I am then it gives me the chance to run things the way that I want.

“The playing side is obviously the most important, but hopefully to do things that I feel are important if it is going to progress.”

Further, the owner of club; Norman Smurthwaite, commented: “I have been impressed with the way Neil has operated since he came back to the club. The results speak for themselves, and I am really happy that he has committed himself to the club.”
