Match Report | Tamworth FC Women 0-2 Port Vale FC Women

Grocott and Garratt keep the Valiants unbeaten league season rolling with victory on the road in Tamworth.

A fast start to proceedings thanks to Olivia Grocott, who with her back to goal, tried an effort on the turn towards the Tamworth net. The host's keepers had the goal covered but an unfortunate error saw the ball go the between her legs and roll over the line to give the Valiants the perfect beginning.

We were almost two goals up after just five minutes when Sian McHugh tried her luck from range but a redeeming save from the Tamworth keeper denied Vale a quick second.

Three minutes later the hosts came close to equalising when a set piece played into the middle was diverted towards goal but the effort cannoned back off the post and was cleared away.

On the 20 minute mark the Valiants came close with their own set piece as a corner was whipped into the middle. McHugh rose highest but her header went just over the bar.

In an end to end game Tamworth came again looking for a leveller but a hopeful effort from well outside the area soared over the crossbar.

After 37 minutes Cassie Davies looked to have been pulled down in the area when she chased after a through ball. However, the referee deemed it was outside the area and Sophie Garratt's free kick almost found its way in but it was tipped over the bar by the host's stopper.

Just before the break Macy Isherwood rushed through on goal but from a tight angle she couldn't quite squeeze the shot on targte as the forward found the side netting.

Five minutes into the second half Connie Watts was tested for the first time in the match but was ready when called upon as an effort heading for the top corner was palmed away by Vale's number one.

On the hour mark Anna O'Leary took aim towards the near post from the left flank but it was well kept out.

With ten minutes to go the Valiants kept pushing for the goal to seal it. Erin Moreton-Powell saw her effort blocked before rolling into the keeper's gloves. Garratt then looked for the bottom corner from range but saw her strike glance past the post.

But just four minutes later Garratt tried the same shot again and this time her accuracy was on point as it crept right into the corner to make sure of the victory.

The Valiants now sit top of the table by a margin of five points with just two games to go.
